VI COMMANDO

L/Cpl. Sydney J. "Danny" Dann

(S/N 14544293)

L/Cpl. Sydney “Danny” Dann, formerly of the Essex Regiment, RASC, REME & Royal Army Catering Corps (RACC), then of No.3 Troop – Lt. Marshall Leaphard’s section - of No.6 Commando from, at least, 5th June 1944. He was promoted to L/Cpl. from Prt. shortly after D-Day.

It is noted that Sydney Dann came originally from Peckham (London) and worked as a "Charge Hand" in the Co-Op Butchery in Dagenham (Kent) before being "called to the colours" in the Essex Regiment, but was soon transferred to the newly formed RACC due to his civilian trade. He volunteered for the Commandos and finally entered training at Achnacarry in January 1942.

After the war he is noted as working in the Insurance profession.
